I nearly always work figuratively, partly out of love for the human form, but mostly because of the added dimension that is created when the viewer decides how the figure thinks and feels. Often my work is about movement. And most often it’s about dancing and rendered in the printmaking mediums, I find that working plate has much in common with dancing with a partner. Whether it’s a monotype plate, an etching plate or a woodblock, there is a dynamic between the plate and the printmaker. A conversation, so to speak, the artist says something on the plate with ink and runs it through the press. The plate says something back, and it is not always the expected answer. Finally an archival enamel surface is added which completes the process.
