Due to the length of time these portraits take to paint they are usually sold right away. Karen is continually painting but upon request can be commissioned.
The Baroque period of the 17th century and Dutch Masters has been a continuing influence on my paintings. The over dramatization of the subject, technical skill, use of chiaroscuro and complimentary colors are strong elements in my work. What I seek to achieve is an abstraction of the technical, to simplify without losing the distinctive painterly quality of this period. I use all these elements to paint portraits. Whether people or fruit, my perspective is always that of a portrait painter. I’m interested in the inner life or contradictions of the subject.
