As a painter, my concern is directed towards process, surface and materials. In 2007 I began using modeling paste as a foundation for my paintings. The medium allows me to create an endless possibility of surface texture onto which I then apply paint and other materials. There is a sculptural aspect to my work as I am able to build up the thick layers that I am so attracted to. I work intuitively and enjoy maneuvering between trying to control and manipulate the medium versus allowing the medium to behave as it would uninterrupted. I enjoy this contrast between chaos and structure. Again it is all about process for me…creating, controlling, manipulating, discovering and allowing. It is this psychological component that makes the pieces deeply personal and fulfilling to create and experience.
