Landscapes, whether real or imagined, are my starting point for an ongoing exploration toward abstraction. Using pastels, I play with color, form, gesture, texture, and ultimately a more instinctive approach. Not always having the right color can prompt an impromptu substitution. I think it is this happy accident which brings personality to a piece. I strive to make landscapes equally beautiful to the original, but different.
